Nothing beats a simple hummus and this one is creamy, rich and full of flavour. It takes only 5 minutes to make with only 6 ingredients and one blender plus it is much more satisfying when you make your own.

I love hummus, it’s pretty much a staple food in my household and there’s the classic vegan joke that it is basically one of our main food groups! I think I agree… it goes with anything and everything and instantly adds a wow factor to a boring meal. It also adds a bit of satiating oomph to a meal thanks to the protein in the chickpeas and the healthy fats in the tahini. It’s an all-round crowd-pleaser.

While I love a flavoursome and more interesting take on the chickpea-based dip, you can’t beat the simplicity of plain hummus. That said, this Simple and Creamy Hummus is anything but plain and ordinary, it has so much of the classic hummus flavour but is a bit lighter as I don’t use much oil

The secret to the creamy smooth texture is thanks to the aquafaba – the reserved liquid in the chickpea tin. It whips up in the dip to add a wonderful thickness and gorgeous texture plus it means less wastage! It’s flavoured simply with lime juice for tang, ground cumin for the beloved hummus flavour and garlic for some good old garlic-y-ness. You can use 1 large fresh garlic clove instead of the granules if you can tolerate raw garlic well and the flavour will be more powerful.

Spread it, dip into it, spoon it, dollop it, smear it, devour it. Any which way you enjoy this hummus – go for it! If you’re looking for some more adventurous flavours, try my Smoked Red Pepper and Walnut Hummus, Edamame and Artichoke Hummus or Chocolate and Tahini Hummus.
