Very Berry Cherry Bircher Jar

A berry and apple packed breakfast bircher muesli that takes 5 minutes to prepare in the mornings for a delicious and creamy jar. It is naturally vegan, healthy and packed with fibre while being cheap and easy to make.

I use the term “recipe” quite loosely for this Very Berry Cherry Bircher Jar as it really is so simple. It is a breakfast – and snack – that I make a few times each week in various shapes and forms, they don’t always end up looking quite this pretty. But they are always satisfying, light but filling and leave me feeling nourished. After receiving a luscious berry and cherry muesli mix from Dorset cereals the other day, I decided to re-vamp my basic recipe and make one that I could share online, rather than only with my family.

Dorset cereals is a pretty household name in the UK, so I was so thrilled when they asked to send me a #breakfastontheslow hamper. Like the name of the campaign suggests, their mission is to encourage more people to take a bit more time in the mornings. Even if you don’t have time to make an elaborate breakfast first thing, you can still sit down for a quiet moment, enjoy their range of cereals or even just a cup of tea or coffee and relax. I pride myself on my morning routine; a quiet and chilled hot water with lemon enjoyed with no phones or distractions. I am also loving my matcha lattes* in the morning and try to sip at these with no emails. Then comes breakfast and this little recipe is here to prove that while you can make it very quickly, you have more time to enjoy breakfast on the slow.

You can even make up this Very Berry Cherry Bircher Jar the night before, give it all a stir in the morning and add the toppings for an easier start to the day. All you need to do is combine some muesli (I am hooked on this berry and cherry one) with grated apple, milk and some flaxseed for thickening and serve with some yoghurt, fresh or frozen fruit, nut butter and jam.

It’s a delicious creamy, fruity and vibrant breakfast jar that leaves you craving another bowl/jar time and time again. It is typically gluten free (check your muesli), and naturally dairy free, vegan, healthy and so simple. Play around with the flavours of yoghurt, mueslis and nut butters for effortless variations and endless possibilities.
