These Funfetti Protein Cookie Dough Balls are deliciously soft, tender and fudgy. Packed with sprinkles, wholesome ingredients and protein, these balls are vegan, gluten-free and easy to make in 5 minutes.

Cookie dough balls and bliss balls are such a favourite snack of mine. They are quick and easy to make, they last a while in the fridge and are great for when you need a little something to keep you going. These snack balls are in protein and taste like cookie dough and vanilla cake batter in every bite, they really are so special.

What ingredients do I need?

The ingredients are simple and delicious:

  • Cashew butter or tahini: the smooth, runny kind is best here. Cashew butter is my favourite as it naturally tastes quite like cookie dough but other nut butters like peanut, almond or walnut will also work. For nut-free options, use tahini or sunflower seed butter.
  • Maple syrup: for the lovely sweet stickiness for the balls. You can use other syrups like agave, oat, date or even vegan honey.
  • Thick dairy-free yoghurt: it is important that the yoghurt is thick otherwise the dough will be too wet. My favourite is Cocos Organic coconut yoghurt but you can use any dairy-free Greek-style yoghurt. Failing that, try unsweetened applesauce, too.
  • Vanilla and almond extract: these add the classic funfetti and cookie dough flavours to the balls. A little goes a long way and the higher quality the extract, the better these Funfetti Protein Cookie Dough Balls taste.
  • Oat flour: blend your oats to a fine flour-like texture to create the base for the cookie dough. Make sure you use GF certified oats where needed.
  • Ground almonds: this also adds to the base of the cookie dough, keeping these balls gluten-free. For a nut-free option, use ground up sunflower seeds or use more oat flour.
  • Vegan vanilla protein powder: this adds the protein to the balls and also I love the flavour of my vanilla protein (I use the one from Awesome Supps and NOURISHINGAMY10 saves you 10% off everything). All protein powders will absorb different amounts of liquid, so you may need more or less then the recipe written. If you don’t want to use protein powder, use more oat flour or ground almonds.
  • Salt: to bring together all the flavours.
  • Sprinkles: not all sprinkles are vegan so make sure you buy ones that are. Natural sprinkles also will lose their colour more quickly in the dough, but I prefer them to artificial ones. I like the sprinkles from Baking Time Club (AMY20 saves you 20% off everything).

How do I make these Funfetti Protein Cookie Dough Balls?

The method really is simple:

  • Stir together the wet ingredients: until smooth.
  • Add in the dry ingredients: and stir to a sticky dough.
  • Fold in some sprinkles: and mix well.
  • Divide into 10: and shape into balls.
  • Roll in more sprinkles: and eat!

Are these cookie dough balls gluten-free and nut-free?

Yes, these are naturally gluten-free just make sure you use GF certified oats and check your sprinkles are gluten-free. To make these snacks nut-free, use tahini or another seed butter in the cookie dough and swap the ground almonds for ground sunflower seeds or more oat flour.

What if I don’t want to use vegan protein powder?

That is totally fine and these Funfetti Protein Cookie Dough Balls will work without the protein powder, using more oat flour or ground almonds instead. They will no longer be that high in protein but still delicious.
