Christmas Chestnut Almond Butter (Vegan)

This Christmas Chestnut Almond Butter is deliciously warming, cosy and spiced made with only a handful of wholefood ingredients. It’s the perfect spread for filling cookies, adding onto crackers or toast or spooning from the jar.

I love roasted chestnuts this time of year and wanted to make an extra-special filling for my Gingerbread Cookies. Combined with almond butter, some spices and a little sweetness, this spread tastes like Christmas by the spoonful and it’s highly addictive. It’s perfect for all the family as it’s vegan, egg-free, gluten-free and made with wholesome, good-for-you ingredients. Plus, it lasts a week or so in the fridge, so is great for gifting to loved ones as an edible Christmas present.

What ingredients do I need?

The ingredient list is simple and you can find all the ingredients by weight in the recipe card and see my favourite products in the “shop the recipe” section.

For the spread:

  • Pre-roasted whole chestnuts: these are the key to this spread and I use the Merchant Gourmet ones which are my favourite.
  • Almond butter: make sure you use high quality smooth and runny almond butter. My go-to is Pip&Nut or make you own, too.
  • Vanilla essence: for the sweet vanilla notes.
  • Salt: to enhance the flavours.
  • Cosy spices: cinnamon, ground ginger and mixed spices work perfectly to achieve a lovely cosy and warmingly spiced spread.
  • Water: this is important for achieving a spreadable texture.

Is this nut-free and gluten-free?

This is not nut-free but it is gluten-free.

How do I make this?

This is so easy to make:

  • Add all of the ingredients to a food processor: I use the small bowl of my Magimix.
  • Blend blend blend: and gradually add the way to achieve a lovely smooth and creamy texture.
  • Spoon into glass jars: and seal well. Keep in the fridge.

What can I use it for?

This is so versatile:

How long will it last?

This will keep for 1-2 weeks in the fridge, sealed well.
