This recipe is held together with the best condiment to adorn your shelves: Sacla’ Vegan Horseradish Sauce. This is THE horseradish sauce that I never knew I needed or missed from my day-to-day life until now. Since working on this recipe, I find every excuse to spread, spoon or stir this Vegan Horseradish Sauce into so many dishes. Typically seen as a side condiment to main meals, this is so delicious stirred into the Chickpea Tuna Salad Sandwich filler and also stirred into creamy pasta dishes for a bit of heat and interest, spread into toasted sandwiches with melting cheese, added into hummus for a lovely, spiced flavour, added into tahini dressings and so much more.

So, what makes this Vegan Horseradish Sauce from Sacla’ so special?

It is naturally vegan, egg, dairy and gluten-free, unlike most others on the shelves. It has a whopping 15% fresh horseradish inside meaning the flavour is authentic and delicious but not overpowering. While it is strong, it won’t blur our other flavours in your dish. It also has mustard in for a little more heat, lemon juice and vinegar for tang and contains no nuts. The texture is smooth and creamy with small pieces of horseradish inside adding interest, depth and richness to it. Can you tell I am a little bit obsessed?

As this delicious sauce is from the family-brand Sacla’, you know that the ingredients are as fresh as possible and that each jar of Vegan Horseradish Sauce is made with love and care. They’ve been creating Pesto and sauces with passion since 1939 – although this product is brand new! Yet, it still encompasses their traditions and beliefs: that food brings people together, is something to be celebrated and that food is at the heart of everything they do.

Speaking of food, what else goes into this delicious Vegan Horseradish jazzed up Chickpea Tuna Salad Sandwich?

  • Chickpeas: obviously! These are the base for this sandwich filler. Simply mash them with a fork until chunky. You could use another white bean too like cannellini or white beans, if needed.
  • Gherkin: or pickled cucumbers for the texture and tangy flavour.
  • Capers: again, for the classic tangy “taste of the sea”.
  • Red onion: just a small amount for a great texture and punch to this sandwich filler.
  • Garlic: for the fiery flavour.
  • Fresh parsley: fresh herbs really lift all recipes, and this adds a lovely freshness to all the rich and tangy flavours.
  • Vegan mayonnaise or yoghurt: this adds the creamy sauce to hold all the flavours together. I prefer tangy plant-based Greek-style yoghurt.
  • Lemon juice: for the zingy freshness.
  • Vegan Horseradish Sauce: this is the magic ingredient to elevate this sandwich filler to the next level. It adds a bit of texture and a lot of flavour. It’s warming, spiced and slightly tangy, too.

Mash the chickpeas and then stir all the ingredients together for this Chickpea Tuna Salad Sandwich before assembling your sandwich. There are a few options when it comes to sandwiches: you can toast the bread first or leave it plain; you can have an open sandwich or close the sandwiches; you can add fresh tomatoes and lettuce, too. Whatever you decide, the essential part is to add an extra smear of Vegan Horseradish Sauce to the bread before adding the filling. This adds another layer of deliciousness to the sandwich – and you’ll get used to adding it to more sandwiches, too!

I hope I have persuaded you to try this delicious Chickpea Tuna Salad Sandwich for your next lunch and if you’re looking for more ways to use your Vegan Horseradish Sauce, how about:
