Tofu Veggie Wraps with Tartare Sauce (Vegan Gluten-Free)

Fresh and vibrant tortilla wraps filled with crispy golden tofu, crunchy vegetables and creamy, tangy, Vegan Tartare Sauce. Make these wraps for lunchtime or picnics for a quick and easy meal.

Wraps are one of my go-to lunch options, whether I am at home or enjoying lunch al fresco (out of my Tupperware) as they are so versatile. I love filling them with all sorts of vegetables, a plant-based protein and something creamy. This time I went for the brand-new Vegan Tartare Sauce from Sacla’ and it’s a new favourite. It’s available in ASDA, from Ocado or online at sacla.co.uk.

Unlike traditional tartare sauce, this one is free from egg, dairy and gluten, meaning you can pop it on the table for everyone to enjoy. It has all the delicious flavours that we all know and love from a tartare sauce, but I have to say, this one is even better! Like all Sacla’ products this condiment it is made from the freshest and most authentic ingredients, transporting you to the seaside in every mouthful.

The ingredient list is simple; the bulk is a sunflower oil based creamy sauce that is naturally flavoured with salty and “fishy” capers, gherkins, leeks, wine vinegar and mustard. It is creamy, refreshing and silky smooth with small chunks, too. As there are so many vegan fish alternatives at the moment, this Vegan Tartare Sauce would go perfectly dolloped onto some fish-less fingers, for example, but I wanted to create something a little special! These Tofu Veggie Wraps with Tartare Sauce are my favourite kind of meal, they are:

The Sacla’ Vegan Tartare Sauce is the sauce that holds the whole wrap together and marries all the flavours so well. In my wrap, I have:

  • Golden crisp tofu: simply slice into thin strips and pan-fry until golden and crisp. You could also use tempeh insteadif you like that.
  • Avocado: I love the creamy texture and mellow flavour this adds to tortilla wraps.
  • Lettuce: for the fresh crispness. You could swap this for spinach or other salad leaves.
  • Cucumber: I love the crunch of cucumber and it’s easy to slice into strips to fit into the wrap.
  • Carrot: for the colour and texture. You could swap this for red pepper strips, too.
  • Sacla’ Vegan Tartare Sauce: a thick layer at the bottom of the wrap means this is packed with a tangy “taste of the sea” that works really well with tofu. I like to add a good dollop on top of the layers too, before wrapping it all together.

For the tortilla wraps, you can either use small ones like I have done here or use regular sized wraps. Any sort of wrap will work, from white to wholemeal and seedy to veg-based and anything in between.

Fresh and vibrant tortilla wraps filled with crispy golden tofu, crunchy vegetables and creamy, tangy, Vegan Tartare Sauce. Make these wraps for lunchtime or picnics for a quick and easy meal.

Ingredients

  • 6 small or 3 large tortilla wraps
  • 6 tbsp Sacla’ Vegan Tartare Sauce, plus extra to serve
  • 200g extra-firm tofu
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 100g cucumber
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 avocado
  • Fresh parsley or coriander
  • Black pepper
  • Olive oil

Directions

  1. Slice the tofu into thin strips. Heat some olive oil in a large non-stick pan and fry the tofu on all sides until golden brown.
  2. Slice the cucumber and carrot into thin strips, about the same size as the tofu. Slice the avocado.
  3. Spread each tortilla with 1-2 tbsp of the Sacla’ Vegan Tartare Sauce and top with a lettuce leaf or two, some avocado, cucumber, carrot and crispy tofu.
  4. Top with some extra Tartare Sauce, fresh herbs and black pepper. Roll up and enjoy fresh.
